In 2011, after Japan's giant earthquake and tsunami, we began teaching trauma recovery and self-care skills to people in the most affected areas. In 2016, having worked with 12,000 people, and having seen the need for safer, more effective methods, we developed Reset® as a tool that would not only help people navigate stress or trauma, but that can help all of us enrich our physical and mental health and enhance our Quality of Life. Due to the simplicity and versatility of Reset®, it is now taught to a range of individuals and organizations. This page highlights some of our research, special trainings and projects, starting with our 2019 Tour of America. Our next Tour will start in early 2020, and may expand to other countries. If you would like us to share Reset® with you, your company, or your community, please feel free to request a workshop or training for your area.
Reset® for EMS Students, Lone Star College, Houston
In January 2019, we taught Reset® to EMS students at Lone Star College in Houston. Mentally and physically demanding, Emergency Medical Service work involves life and death situations, and is linked to high incidences of PTSD and depression. Before Reset®, senior paramedics discussed the risks of taking stress home after work, the pitfalls of talk therapy, the value of self-care as preventive medicine, and how useful self-care tools like Reset® would have been to them when they first started-out in the field. The students noted physical and mental benefits after Reset®, and many felt that it would benefit them in their future work and life.
Reset® for Nursing Students, Lone Star College, Houston
In January 2019, we taught Reset® to nursing students at Lone Star College in Houston. Work-related stress in the health professions is higher than average, and nursing students often find that practicals, night shifts, and the sheer volume of study involved leaves them with no time or energy to practice self-care. Reset® can help. It is quickly learned, uses little time or energy, and can be done anywhere (right before an exam, or just after a shift) with immediate effect. The nursing students reported mental and physical benefits after Reset®, felt able to use it as self-care, and felt that doing so would benefit them in both their future work and lives.
Reset® for Social Outreach Leaders, Houston
In January 2019, we held a private Reset® workshop in Houston for an outreach leader who works to combat human trafficking. Human trafficking is modern day slavery. With 25 million victims worldwide, it is the second largest organized crime, and prevalent in many big cities. Reset® was considered a valuable tool for outreach leaders, who we hope to support more in the future.
Reset® for Customer Services, Houston
In January 2019, we taught Reset® at a Houston Housing Association. Sources of stress identified were long periods of sitting, talking by phone or in person to customers, and handling complaints. During Reset®, we explained how each of the steps can be used in each situation. Before and After reports of feelings, emotions, and physical condition showed that Reset® was highly beneficial. Before and After photos of each attendee's face showed changes in muscle tone around the eyes, mouth, and jaw-line. The group noted that their smiles looked more natural, their eyes shone more brightly, and that each person looked more friendly and approachable after Reset®. Natural smiles and their calming effect on us are key to customer relations, but cannot be accessed from a state of stress. As such, it is no exaggeration to say that the best customer-care actually starts with self-care. Reset® was seen as a valuable tool for improving staff health, customer relations, and work performance.
Reset® for Balance after Stress or Trauma, Florida
In February 2019, we taught Reset® at the Black Cat Yoga Studio in Jacksonville. Florida has faced several natural and man-made disasters in recent years, and Reset® is a safe and effective way for communities to recover. The sense of peace and safety at the Black Cat Studio made it an ideal setting for Reset®, and the workshop was attended at full capacity. Attendees noted various mental and physical benefits after Reset®, and many expressed the desire to teach Reset® to others. We look forward to our next visit!
Reset® at Tutu's House, Waimea, Hawaii
In February 2019, for the second year running, we taught Reset® at 'Tutu's House' in Waimea. Built by local non-profit 'Friends of the Future', Tutu’s House is a wellness resource center that has served the people of Hawaii Island for 20 years with a range of classes that enhance community health and harmony. We have taught Reset® at Tutu's House to people aged 9-94. This year, 35 people filled the room. After Reset®, we were told:
"I've suffered from stress and anxiety for many years and have tried so many things to help. I felt peace today for the first time in a long time. I was surprised to find relief from a method that is so simple and easy to learn. Thank you SO much!"
We look forward to sharing Reset® at Tutu's House again in 2020.
Child-Care and Education on Small Islands, Hawaii
In February 2019, we held a series of interviews on Oahu and Molokai with local experts in social welfare, child-care, and education. These interviews were part of an ongoing collaboration with Prof. Motomura of the University of the Ryukyu's in Okinawa, who is studying child-care in small island settings. On this visit we spoke with University of Hawaii faculty, the head of an innovative pre-school, founders of a center for foster children, staff of a drop-in center for homeless people, and a Hawaiian community leader. We are grateful to each for sharing their time and experience with us and for helping us to more fully understand child-care in small island settings.
Reset® Training for Teachers, Lone Star College, Houston
In March 2019, we held a 2 day training at Lone Star College that taught faculty members how to teach Reset® to their students and fellow staff. In the future we hope to work at a sister campus that was damaged in a hurricane, and hold trainings at all 6 campusses so that Reset® may be available to staff and students system-wide.
Reset® for Lawyers, Florida
In March 2019, we taught Reset® to a legal firm in Florida. As with all high-stress work, lawyers need stress resilience to perform under pressure, and a way to switch-off after work to prevent them from taking stress home to their loved ones. Without these measures in place, relationships, family, work, health and Quality of Life all suffer. Reset® meets these needs, and is a valuable resource for high-stress professions. The group reported both physical and mental benefits after Reset® and are now using our four-week support program to help them integrate Reset® into daily life as a habit that enhances their long-term health, happiness, and work performance.
Reset® at the CwG New Year Retreat, Oregon
At the end of 2018, we taught Reset® at the New Year Retreat of best-selling author, Neale Donald Walsch. Over the last 25 years, Neale's 'Conversations with God' books have sold 10 million copies in 37 languages, touching the lives of people everywhere. Reset® was considered a good match for the 2018 retreat theme: 'Dealing with Change, Coping with Calamity', and 90% of the retreat attendees joined us for the optional early-morning Reset® sessions. After Reset®, the group reported stress relief, inner peace, and reduced back pain. Many have said that they continue to use Reset® and benefit from it. We look forward to sharing Reset® at further CwG Retreats in 2020 and beyond.
Trauma Recovery, Tohoku
Since Japan's 2011 earthquake and tsunami, we have taught stress-care and trauma recovery to thousands of people in the four most affected regions of Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, and Aomori. We continue to teach Reset® to people in the area, and nationwide to the people displaced from the area.

340,000 people were displaced from their homes after the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami. While many people are still in need of support, outreach is decreasing. In September 2018, we worked with 'Kakara no Oto' to share Reset® at free music events that have been held annually in Sapporo since 2011.

After outreach at Iwate orphanages, JPMI was invited by the Iwate Children's Home Association Council to train staff from 4 orphanages, giving staff and children self-care skills for life.
Self-Care and Nutrition
When our body and mind are balanced, we eat, sleep, and live healthily. When stressed, many of us over-eat, and make food choices that create more stress. Since 2017, JPMI has taught Reset® to the nutritional education group 'Natural Style' with founder, Ogiwara Ayako. You are what you eat!
