Japanese Health Philosophy
While the West developed theories of Health that focused on the brain, the East developed practices based on a more holistic Philosophy: Body and Mind are One. Life is here and Now. In our
Natural State we respond to Life from a state of grounded stability. Practices like Aikido suggest how we can use posture, breath, body and mind to stay calm when challenged, how to stop
stress or trauma reactions from being triggered, and how to restore balance if they are. A holistic view of health is gaining appeal in the West, as reflected in the WHO definition of Health.
Studies now show that mindfulness and meditation may be useful tools for stress or trauma care, but some of the practices take time to master and are not always appropriate or safe, so some
people benefit from them, while others give up.
